Apple has expanded its Self-Service Repair program to include more parts for the iPhone 16, like displays, cameras, batteries, and back glass. This allows users to fix their own devices without relying on official service centers. Apple started offering this option in 2021 after facing calls to allow more self-repair choices.
Apple’s repair page lists parts prices, with an iPhone 16 screen replacement costing $279 and the Pro model at $349. Batteries begin at $99. Customers also receive a credit when they return used parts, which Apple recycles. Apple rents out specialized tools to make repairs easier, too.
These updates come as more consumers and advocates push for repair-friendly devices to reduce waste. Apple has improved iPhone repairability, scoring a 7 out of 10 from iFixit this year, thanks to changes like better battery adhesives and designs that allow front and back repairs.
