Apple’s iPhone 16 lineup is getting alot of attention not just for its new sleek design and new features but also for the boost in charging speed. According to a recent certification from the China Quality Certification Centre, all iPhone 16 models now support up to 45W wired fast charging via the USB-C port—a noticeable improvement over previous models.
However, while 45W sounds impressive on paper, the real-world performance might not fully reach that level. According to Ice Universe on X, the actual charging speed for the iPhone 16 is closer to 39W in practice. While this is still much faster than the iPhone 15’s 27-29W max, it falls short of the 45W listed in the certification. So, while users will definitely notice faster charging times, it may not be as high as initially expected.
The certification, first spotted by ShrimpApplePro on X, confirmed that all iPhone 16 models were tested at 5-15 volts and 3 amps, achieving up to 45W of power. This represents over a 50% improvement compared to the iPhone 15 series, which never quite hit 30W. While Apple has stayed quiet on official wired charging numbers, this certification backs up previous rumors of faster charging for the new iPhones.
Apple typically doesn’t talk much about wired charging specs, opting instead for vague mentions of “fast charging” using a 20W USB-C brick. The company confirmed that MagSafe charging has been upgraded to support up to 25W, but no specifics were provided for the wired option during the event.
The iPhone 16 and iPhone 16 Pro were unveiled earlier this week. Preorders start on Friday, and shipping begins on September 20th. Alongside faster charging, the new phones come with several exciting features, like larger displays on the Pro models, a new Camera Caption button, and Apple’s focus on building devices for what it calls “Apple Intelligence.”
Even though the iPhone 16’s charging speed may not hit the full 45W, the jump to around 39W is still a huge improvement. It’s faster than previous generations, giving users a quicker, more efficient way to power up their devices. For those eager to take advantage of this feature, the new lineup promises faster charging times and plenty of exciting upgrades.
