iPhone users in Europe can play and enjoy Fortnite again, but there’s a twist. After a long battle between Apple and Epic Games, the game is back on iPhones—but not through the usual App Store. Instead, players would need to download the Epic Games Store app via Safari and install Fortnite from there.
Epic even provided a YouTube tutorial to help with the process. Instructions on how to download and install the Epic Games Store on your mobile device are here for iOS users and here for Android users.
The same goes for Android, as Epic explained in its blog post. You might wonder why Epic insists on using its own digital storefront instead of the App Store or Play Store like other mobile games. The reason is simple: Apple and Google usually take a cut of in-app purchases, and Epic wants to keep all the revenue for itself.
Regardless of the reasons, the confusion of the past few years is over. No more streaming Fortnite to an iPhone or using workarounds. Also, it’s unclear when U.S. iPhone users will see Fortnite again. If you’re in Europe and love Fortnite, you’re in luck. For everyone else, the wait continues.
