Apple is rolling out new AI features with iOS 18 throughout 2024, but the much-anticipated Siri upgrade arrives later in iOS 18.4 (2025). Bloomberg confirms this, specifying the major Siri revamp is planned for iOS 18.4.

Apple’s already working on the major Siri upgrade planned for a developer beta in January 2025, with a public release expected sometime in spring. Before that, Siri will get a visual refresh, likely including the new animation Apple showcased where invoking Siri brings a flare around the iPhone screen, replacing the current circle icon.

While a visual refresh for Siri is expected before the end of 2024, the major functionality upgrade with ChatGPT integration is still on track for iOS 18.4’s developer beta in January 2025 (public release likely in spring).

This update will enable Siri to understand commands better and complete multi-step tasks. The functionality relies partly on app intents, allowing developers to integrate specific features of their apps directly with Siri.

What to Expect for Siri Next Year

iOS 18.4, expected in Spring 2025, is set to be a major upgrade for Siri. This update will focus on improving intelligence and functionality. Here’s what to expect:

Smarter Siri

Siri will gain a much deeper understanding of your commands, allowing for multi-step tasks. Imagine asking about a sports team and then seamlessly adding their next game to your calendar – all through Siri! This relies partly on app intents, where developers can integrate specific features of their apps directly with Siri.

ChatGPT Integration (possible)

Rumors suggest Siri might integrate with ChatGPT by the end of 2024, potentially before iOS 18.4. This could lead to smoother interactions and a more natural flow of conversation.
