Traditionally, Apple CarPlay has been a car driver’s perk. However, Nepali EV startup Yatri Motorcycles is changing the game with the P1 Gen 2, the world’s first two-wheeler to integrate wireless Apple CarPlay (and Android Auto).
This means riders can now access their iPhones directly through the motorbike’s display. Imagine voice-controlled music playback, navigation, and more—all while keeping their eyes on the road.
While Yatri hasn’t officially announced a launch date for the P1 Gen 2, rumors suggest it will arrive sometime in 2024. Pricing details are also under wraps, but considering the original P1’s starting price of Rs 565,000 (approximately $4,240) in Nepal, expect the P1 Gen 2 to be a premium motorcycle.
CarPlay in Cars: A Must-Have, But Will Bikes Follow Suit?
Apple CarPlay has become a major selling point for cars, with studies showing over 35% of buyers wouldn’t consider a car without it. This raises the question: could CarPlay become just as important for motorcycles as the technology becomes more widely integrated?
The convenience and safety benefits of CarPlay – voice-controlled music and navigation – are attractive to car drivers. But will these same features translate to the motorcycle experience? While it’s still in its early days, Yatri Motorcycles’ P1 Gen 2 is a glimpse into the future. It’ll be interesting to see how riders respond to this integration and if CarPlay becomes a game-changer for motorcycles as well.
