iPads are great, but accessories like keyboards unlock their full potential, transforming them into pseudo-mini laptops. If you own an iPad from 2021 or earlier, you can now get the official Apple Smart Keyboard for just $50 at Walmart (originally $159). This model features responsive keys and a stable flap, avoiding the common issues of unresponsive keys and wobbling flaps.
Like many Apple products, this keyboard was overpriced at launch, but at $50, it’s a fantastic value for your iPad. Here are the iPads compatible with this smart keyboard:

- Apple iPad (9th Generation) 10.2″ (2021)
- Apple iPad Air (3rd Generation) 10.5″ (2019)

You don’t need to charge this keyboard; it connects via the three circles on the side of your iPad, drawing power directly from your device, so there’s no need for pairing or Bluetooth.
However, there are two major drawbacks: it lacks a backlight, making it difficult to type in dark rooms, and while it protects your screen when closed, it leaves the back of your iPad exposed to scratches and damage if dropped. Despite these inconveniences, this is a solid Apple-designed keyboard that will get the job done.
