This week, the Apple event did not disappoint. Apple introduced new products and features like the iPhone 16, AirPods 4, and audio and camera features. Amongst the announcements were updates to its Voice Memos app and new features for recording basic audio. Now, you can layer multiple tracks, like vocals and instruments, right in the app. This means you can create full musical pieces on the go, recording each part separately and blending them together.
The Layer Feature
One of the best additions is the “layer” feature. For example, you can record a guitar track and then hit the layer button to add vocals. While recording the second track, the app plays the first track through your iPhone’s speakers. Plus, Apple added advanced processing that reduces background noise from the first track while you record the next one, giving your recordings a more professional sound, even in noisy environments.
The update also includes a handy transcription tool powered by AI. Originally made for voice notes, this tool now helps musicians by transcribing song lyrics or melodies directly from a recording. So, if you’re capturing ideas on the go, you can quickly turn your audio into written lyrics or notes, making the creative process faster and easier.
Adjust the Balance Between Tracks
Another useful feature is the ability to adjust the balance between tracks. After recording different layers, you can fine-tune how the tracks sound together by using a simple slider. This makes it easy for musicians to tweak their compositions without needing extra software.
These new updates make the Voice Memos app much more powerful for musicians and songwriters. With layered recordings, noise reduction, and transcription, the app is now a useful tool for capturing and developing musical ideas, whether you’re at home or on the go.
