Alongside the expected updates to the Apple Watch Series 10 and Ultra 2, Apple is reportedly considering a significant shift for the next-generation SE: a plastic case, potentially lowering its cost.
In 2022, Apple updated the Apple Watch SE with a lighter, nylon composite back case, replacing the previous ceramic design. The rest of the watch remains aluminum, similar to higher-end models. While a plastic build could make the Apple Watch SE more attractive at its current price point ($249), it might affect durability or scratch resistance compared to the aluminum body.
About the Apple Watch SE (2nd Gen)
Launched on September 16th, 2022, the second generation of the Apple Watch SE offered a nice upgrade without a significant price jump. The biggest improvement came with the faster S8 SiP chip, giving it a performance boost compared to the original SE’s S5 chip.
This meant smoother operation and potentially better battery life. Safety was also a focus with the introduction of Crash Detection. This feature could automatically call emergency services if a potential car accident is detected. While it wasn’t a complete redesign, the wider range of color options for the case and bands allowed for more personalization.
