Apple is considering expanding iPad and AirPod charging case manufacturing to India, following its rapidly growing iPhone production there.
Seeking to reduce reliance on China, tech giant Apple has been steadily increasing iPhone production in India. Now, local financial publication Benzinga reports that the company plans to expand this manufacturing focus to include other devices.
To capitalize on India’s push to become a manufacturing hub, Apple is seeking a local partner to build iPads and AirPod charging cases, further diversifying its production there. Apple previously shifted key iPad engineering resources to Vietnam due to reported government restrictions in India but is now seeking a new local partner to manufacture iPads there.
Apple is expanding its India production beyond iPhones
The company plans to utilize Jabil’s Indian facilities to manufacture AirPod charging cases starting in early 2025, with quality testing already underway in Pune. Additionally, Apple is considering Foxconn for the same production. This move aligns with the Indian government’s desire to see Mac and MacBook Pro production established in the country following a briefly proposed import restriction plan in August 2023.
