Apple is reportedly set to announce a major partnership with Google at its September event. According to Bloomberg’s Mark Gurman, this will include integrating Google’s new AI assistant, Gemini, onto iPhones.

This year’s fall Apple event is expected to unveil the iPhone 16 alongside iOS 18, featuring the much-anticipated launch of Apple Intelligence, its new AI system built directly into the operating system. Notably, Apple already announced a separate partnership with OpenAI at WWDC in June.

Apple has reportedly held talks with other leaders in the AI space such as Google, Anthropic, and Meta. According to Bloomberg’s Mark Gurman, these discussions included the possibility of integrating Google’s Gemini AI model into Apple’s upcoming features. Gurman expects an announcement regarding this partnership in September.

Unlike its partnerships with OpenAI and potentially Google, Apple reportedly has reservations about integrating Meta’s Llama AI model into iOS. Concerns over Meta’s privacy practices and Apple’s perception of Llama as less advanced than competitor offerings seem to be key factors.

While Apple entered the AI space later than its rivals, its mobile dominance is an advantage. As reported last month, Apple’s partnership with OpenAI involves no financial exchange but offers mass distribution on Apple devices and a board seat for Phil Schiller.

The details of Apple’s AI partnership with Google remain under wraps, but with Apple’s September event on the horizon, the wait won’t be long.
