Since it came out, Gemini on iOS has only been part of the Google Search app. But things are changing! At least one iPhone user has spotted a standalone “Google Gemini” app on the App Store, which even includes the new Gemini Live feature.
With this new app, you’ll see the Gemini icon right on your home screen, encouraging you to “Unlock the power of Google AI on your iPhone.” Before, to use Gemini, you had to open the Google app and switch to the Gemini tab. In September, Google made this easier by adding Gemini shortcuts to the home screen widget.
The app listing for “Google Gemini” shows that it supports Gemini Live, which you won’t find in the main Google app yet. A user who downloaded it tried out the live voice feature, which stays active even while they’re using other apps! Right now, this app has only been reported in the Philippines, and it doesn’t appear on the U.S. App Store, so Google might be testing it in a few places first.
For now, Gemini on iPhone has features similar to those found on gemini.google.com, though it hasn’t been updated to look like the Android version. The new standalone app might speed up updates.
