Procreate, one of the most popular design apps for iPads, is taking a stand against the rise of AI in design tools. While many programs, like Adobe Photoshop, are adding AI features, Procreate has made it clear that they won’t be joining this trend.

This year, several design tools have faced backlash for incorporating AI. Critics argue that using AI in art diminishes its authenticity. Adobe, for instance, updated its terms of use, allowing them to access users’ content to train AI. This move has sparked controversy, with many questioning the ethics behind it. Figma and other design programs have faced similar criticism.

CEO James Cuda isn’t a fan of AI in design tools. In a video posted on X, he made his stance clear: “I really hate generative AI.” He emphasized that Procreate’s products are made for humans to create with, not AI.

We’re never going there. Creativity is made, not generated.

To be clear, Procreate has openly rejected generative AI. The company recently posted on X (formerly Twitter), stating, “We are never going there.” Procreate’s firm stance has resonated with many artists who prefer traditional creative methods, reinforcing the app’s commitment to pure design without AI interference.
