This week, Apple updated the Apple Maps app in Paris in preparation for the 2024 Summer Olympics, starting on Friday, July 26. All permanent venues, including the Parc des Princes and Centre Aquatique Olympique, are now displayed as custom, hand-built 3D landmarks.

Iconic sites like Gare de l’Est, Pont d’Iéna, and Place de la Madeleine are now rendered with more detail. For the first time, the Maps app also displays pop-up locations, including temporary venues, souvenir shops, and public gathering sites. This support for pop-up locations will help attendees find important places during the Summer Games.

All game locations and ceremony sites feature special icons to help visitors find their way. Apple states that Maps displays the latest updates on road closures and advisories related to the games to assist users in navigating the city. Additionally, there are curated Maps Guides for restaurants, hotels, and shopping, with new contributions from Le Bonbon, Le Fooding, Radio France, Madame Figaro, and My Little Paris.

In addition to Maps updates, Apple will feature stories spotlighting popular events like gymnastics and swimming in the App Store and recommends downloading the official Paris 2024 Olympics app for updates. Sports-themed mobile games and health and fitness apps will also be highlighted.

Full coverage of Olympic events will be available through the Peacock and NBC Sports apps, downloadable from the App Store. U.S. fans can access a daily Olympic recap on Peacock, offering customized playlists of highlights from the previous day’s events.

Apple Podcasts will feature shows and episodes celebrating sports and the communal spirit of the Paris Olympics. Apple News will offer curated coverage of the events, star athletes, and a schedule of the games. Additionally, Apple Music plans to release a Guide to French Music, an in-depth editorial on various musical genres in France, later this week.

The Summer Olympics will start next Friday with the Opening Ceremony at 1:30 p.m. Eastern Time (7:30 p.m. Paris time). Soccer matches will begin on July 24, with badminton, handball, rowing, volleyball, fencing, field hockey, shooting, diving, and gymnastics starting on July 27. Events will continue through August 11.
