With iPhone 16 specs expected to surpass the iPhone 15, the question remains: Will their price tags follow suit? Can we expect prices to hold steady instead? These are important questions to ask, especially today, as everything is going up. Let’s talk about it.

Historically, iPhone prices have fluctuated. For instance, the iPhone 13 saw a slight increase compared to the iPhone 12, while the iPhone 11 offered a lower starting price than its predecessor. While the exact cost of the iPhone 16 lineup (including iPhone 16, Plus, Pro, and Pro Max) remains unknown, rumors and past trends offer some clues for predictions.

While a definitive price for the iPhone 16 remains unknown, historical trends suggest it will likely start at the same price point as the iPhone 15 or potentially higher. However, a mid-2023 report hinted at a potential cost reduction for the A17 chip, leaving a small chance the iPhone 16 might be priced lower.

The A17 Pro is expected to be the chip powering the standard iPhone 16. If Apple manages to reduce production costs for this chip, there’s a chance they might pass on some savings to customers in the form of a lower iPhone 16 price. However, historically, Apple tends to invest savings in other phone improvements.

In the most affordable scenario, the iPhone 16 Pro Max might start at the same price point as the iPhone 15 Pro Max, which was $1,199 (or your regional equivalent). However, a slight price bump isn’t out of the question due to potential component cost increases or new features.

Factoring in potentially pricier camera components and rising production costs, we expect the iPhone 16 Pro Max to start between $1,299 / £1,299 / AU$2,349, which is slightly higher than the iPhone 15 Pro Max. Rumors also suggest a possible iPhone 16 Ultra, which, if it launches, would likely be even more expensive than the Pro Max.
