MacBook design changes Revealed in Leaked Apple Patent
SHARE

According to a recently leaked patent, upcoming MacBooks could bring exciting surprises like multiple cameras and a radically different display.

Apple is not typically known for drastically changing the design of its key products like iPhones or MacBooks, as the company usually opts for iterative updates. However, a new patent suggests that the upcoming MacBook may sport a striking new look.

The patent, filed by Apple and spotted by iMore, describes a next-gen MacBook with a convertible design and up to four camera sensors at the back. It features a base portion with input components and a rotating display portion, incorporating aperture and internal volume control.

Additional Markups of the Design

One of the sketches in the patent document hints that Apple is experimenting with multiple camera modules for the MacBook. One such module includes four sensors: LiDAR, infrared, time-of-flight cameras, and more. Some sketches show a camera module flush with the rear panel, while others depict a more prominent design similar to iPhones.

Apple also explores the idea of a detachable camera module that can be placed on either the back or the front of the laptop. The design allows for a pivotable or rotatable connection between the base and display portions via a hinge assembly.

This patent, originally filed in April 2022, highlights Apple’s attempts to innovate the design and features of one of its most popular products. With the introduction of the OLED iPad Pro and the rumored iPhone 17 Slim, Apple is clearly focusing on combining lifestyle and advanced features.
