Apple unveiled a refreshed iPad Pro today, now featuring the M5 chip. This update delivers the latest generation of Apple Silicon performance in the company’s slimmest tablet yet. The cellular versions also come equipped with the new Apple C1X modem.

Apple claims the new M5-powered iPad Pro offers up to 3.5 times the AI performance of the previous model, a boost attributed to the Neural Accelerators in each GPU core. You can order the new iPad Pro starting today, with first deliveries scheduled for October 22.

Compared to the M4 chip, the M5 boasts faster CPU cores, updated GPU cores with those Neural Accelerators, and a quicker Neural Engine. On the CPU front, Apple suggests users will see a 15% multi-core speed jump over the M4.

For artificial intelligence tasks, Apple reports peak GPU compute performance is up to 4 times faster. General graphics performance is up to 45% higher than the M4. The overall memory bandwidth across the chip is also 30% greater than the M4, reaching up to 153 GB/s. Apple also introduced new MacBook Pro and Vision Pro models running on the M5 chip today.

Regarding the new iPad Pro’s cellular models, the Qualcomm modem has been swapped out for the Apple C1X modem. Apple says this offers up to 50 percent faster cellular speeds than the previous iPad Pro while consuming up to 30% less power. The C1X was previously featured in the iPhone Air.

Every new iPad Pro model utilizes the Apple N1 chip, which manages WiFi, Bluetooth, and Thread radio communications. This chip first appeared in the iPhone 17 lineup.

The iPad Pro with M5 starts at $999 for the 11-inch model and $1299 for the 13-inch model, maintaining the previous pricing. Cellular versions add $200 to the cost of each model.
