Apple has long resisted adding touch screens to its MacBooks, even as many Windows laptops have adopted the feature. However, a new patent reveals that Apple might be exploring a different way to bring touch functionality to the MacBook Pro.

The patent, titled “Portable Computer With Dynamic Display Interface,” suggests that Apple is considering making the area around the MacBook Pro’s keyboard touch-sensitive. This could include touch-sensitive strips on either side of the keyboard and possibly around the edges as well.

The patent also hints at reimagining the trackpad, turning it into a dynamic display that could change its shape or function depending on what the user is doing.

This new approach might allow users to interact with their MacBook in new ways without losing the traditional keyboard. Apple is also considering adding haptic feedback, letting users feel when they move from one touch-sensitive area to another, making it easier to use without looking down.

While this patent doesn’t guarantee these features will make it to the final product, it shows that Apple is seriously considering new ways to enhance the MacBook Pro’s design and functionality. This could signal a significant shift in how we use laptops, blending traditional and touch-based computing in innovative ways.
