After years of waiting, Google Maps users can now report road hazards and delays directly from their CarPlay-connected devices. This long-awaited feature brings Google Maps closer to parity with Apple Maps, which has offered similar functionality for some time. While Apple Maps’ hazard reporting system is generally effective, it sometimes frustrates users by prematurely asking if an incident is still present.
While Google Maps users have been able to report road hazards and delays on their phones since 2019, CarPlay users have been excluded from this feature. But that’s changing as Google has begun rolling out hazard reporting to Google Maps on CarPlay. This feature allows drivers to report incidents like accidents, roadblocks, or speed traps directly from their car’s display. While this is a welcome addition, the feature is still absent from Android Auto.
How to Report a Hazard on CarPlay
To report a hazard, users will see a new hazard sign icon. Tapping it provides options for various incident types, making sharing real-time road conditions with other drivers easy. This update follows a similar pattern to Google Maps’ speedometer feature, which was introduced on Android years before making its way to iOS.
