Apple TV+ is getting a feature similar to Amazon Prime Video’s X-Ray! The new “InSight” functionality is now live in the Apple TV app for users running the latest iOS 18 beta 3 and tvOS 18 beta 3 updates.

Like X-Ray, InSight delivers real-time information about actors, characters, and music playing on screen in your Apple TV+ shows and movies.

Confirmed by both Mahmoud Itani and 9to5Mac, InSight provides instant information about actors, characters, and even music playing in your favorite Apple TV+ shows and movies. It’s available on your iPhone, iPad, and Apple TV.

Even cooler, you can access InSight using the virtual remote on your iPhone while watching something on your Apple TV.

TvOS 18: What We Know So Far

Here’s a rundown of what we know so far about tvOS 18:

New Features:

  • InSight: This is a new feature for Apple TV+ content that lets you see information about actors, music playing during a scene, and other details by tapping the back button on your remote.
  • Smart Subtitles: Subtitles now appear automatically when you mute the TV or rewind. Additionally, subtitles will automatically display if the content you’re watching is in a language different from your system’s default.
  • Enhanced Dialogue Audio: This feature, previously exclusive to HomePods, is now available with HDMI-connected speakers, AirPods, or any Bluetooth speaker. It improves vocal clarity by separating dialogue from background noise and music.
  • Extended Voice Isolation (Accessibility): This new option provides additional audio focus for dialogue during playback.
  • 21:9 Aspect Ratio Support: This allows you to watch movies and shows on compatible projectors in their original 21:9 widescreen format.
  • New Screen Savers: New screen savers are available, including one featuring the Peanuts character Snoopy.

Other Improvements:

  • Potential future integration with Gmail Q&A and Contextual Smart Reply (based on leaks).

Availability:

  • tvOS 18 is currently in beta testing for developers.
  • A public beta is expected later this month (July 2024).
  • The official release is expected this fall (around September/October 2024).
