Apple is set to launch new iPhones and wearables at the upcoming “It’s Glowtime” event next week. The M4 Mac Mini and M4 MacBook are rumored to be announced in October, with shipping expected in November, similar to last year’s M3 MacBook Pro launch.
But that’s not all—Apple is also expected to update its Mac lineup, including a redesigned Mac Mini. Along with the new M4 chipset and a fresh design, the Mac Mini is expected to drop USB-A ports entirely.
Since its 2010 debut, the Mac Mini has featured both USB-C and USB-A ports. However, the next-gen Mac Mini is rumored to go all-in on USB-C, with five USB-C ports: two in the front and three in the back. The device is also expected to keep the HDMI, Ethernet, and 3.5 mm audio jack. This information pertains to the M4 Pro Mac Mini, so differences with the standard M4 model are still unclear.
The move to full USB-C isn’t surprising, given Apple’s gradual phase-out of USB-A ports in other products like the MacBook. Other reported changes include an internal power supply and a more compact but taller chassis. The internal design changes, like improved cooling, are still unknown.
