Apple has just updated its obsolete list, officially ending repair and service support for several aging devices. This latest sweep affects several popular gadgets, pushing them toward final retirement.
⚠️ New Additions to the Obsolete List
The following devices have officially reached obsolete status, meaning they are no longer eligible for repair service from Apple or Authorized Service Providers:
- Original iPhone SE (2016)
- Select 2nd-generation 12.9-inch iPad Pro models
- Apple Watch Series 4 (specifically the Nike and Hermès variants)
- Beats Pill 2.0
The End of an Era for the iPhone SE
The retirement of the original iPhone SE marks the end of a legacy. Launched in 2016 at a relatively low price point ($399), the device was Apple’s core compromise for fans who valued a compact size and the classic iPhone 5 design over the flagship models. The SE line, which borrowed the A9 chip and featured a 4-inch display, became the unofficial budget alternative until its eventual replacement by newer generations.
The Difference Between Vintage and Obsolete
Apple’s designation policies mean a product is labeled “obsolete” seven years after it was last distributed for sale. This explains why only the specialized Nike and Hermès editions of the Apple Watch Series 4 made the list this round; the standard Series 4 is currently on the “vintage” list, which applies to devices discontinued for at least five years.
